Edit a recording in Mixlr Studio

Mixlr Studio includes a built-in recording editor. You can use it to clean up a broadcast recording before uploading — removing unwanted sections, adding fades, or boosting a quiet mix. Recordings imported from outside Mixlr can be edited the same way.

Open a recording for editing

When you finish a live event with recording enabled, the recording opens automatically in a new tab in the Recordings window. The same happens when you record without broadcasting, or when you import an external file.

To open an existing recording: in the menu bar, select Recordings > Recordings, then select the recording from the Library tab.

Edit a section

1. Click and drag on the waveform to highlight the section you want to edit.

2. Select the Actions button that appears.

3. Choose from the following options:

• Edit as new recording — opens the selected section in a new tab as a separate recording

• Delete — removes the selected section and shortens the overall duration of the recording

• Silence — removes the audio from the selected section without changing the duration

• Fade in — gradually fades from silence to full volume across the selected section

• Fade out — gradually fades from full volume to silence across the selected section

• Normalize — increases the volume to the maximum level without clipping, preserving the dynamics of the section

Undo and redo

After making an edit, the Undo button (curved arrow pointing left) appears above the waveform. Select it to reverse your last edit.

After undoing, the Redo button (curved arrow pointing right) appears next to it. Select it to reapply the edit.

Save your edits

When you're happy with your changes, select Save. To discard all edits without saving, close the recording tab and select Discard when prompted.
