How to use a third-party streaming service with Mixlr

Send live audio to your Mixlr channel from OBS, Restream, YoloBox, or any RTMP-compatible streaming service.

If you broadcast using external software or hardware — such as OBS, YoloBox, or Restream — you can send that audio directly to your Mixlr channel using an RTMP stream key. Your Mixlr channel goes live automatically when you start broadcasting, and goes offline when you stop.

Choose your stream key type

There are two types of stream key depending on how you want to broadcast:

• Channel stream key — tied to your channel rather than a specific event. You can go live and stop as many times as you like using the same key. Each broadcast appears on Mixlr using your default event settings.

• Event-specific stream key — tied to a specific scheduled event. Use this when you want custom settings — such as a specific title, description, or access level — for a particular broadcast.

Create a channel stream key

1. Go to Channel Stream Keys in your Creators dashboard: https://creators.mixlr.com/settings/channel-stream-keys/edit

2. Select Create stream key.

3. Copy the server URL and RTMP key and paste them into your third-party streaming service.

Tip: Channel stream key events use your default event settings — title, description, and access level. You can update these at creators.mixlr.com/settings/live-events/edit. The event image defaults to your channel artwork.

Create an event-specific stream key

1. Schedule a live event from your Creators dashboard.

2. Open the newly created event page and scroll down to Stream keys.

3. Select Create stream key.

4. Copy the server URL and RTMP key and paste them into your third-party streaming service.

Going live

Once you start broadcasting in your third-party service, your Mixlr channel goes live automatically. When you end the broadcast, your Mixlr channel goes offline.

Recordings: Because you're not broadcasting through Mixlr Studio, Mixlr won't capture a recording of your event. If you want a recording, make sure recording is enabled in your third-party streaming service before you go live. You can then Upload the recording to your Mixlr channel afterwards.
