Broadcast with Virtual DJ and a MIDI controller
Route your Virtual DJ mix into Mixlr using an external MIDI controller.
This article explains how to broadcast from Virtual DJ using an external MIDI controller. The steps use a Hercules DJ Console MK4 as an example, but they apply to any compatible MIDI controller.
Step 1: Set up your MIDI controller
1. Connect your controller to your computer via USB.
2. Using a phono to phono cable, connect Output 1–2 to Input 1–2 on your controller to loop the audio back.
Tip: Check that you have the latest drivers for your controller installed before getting started.
Step 2: Configure Virtual DJ
1. Open Virtual DJ and select the Settings icon (top right of the screen).
2. Go to the Audio Settings tab.
3. Set the output option to SPEAKER + HEADPHONE.
4. Configure your outputs:
• Master output: select your MIDI controller > Channels 1 and 2
• Headphones output: select your MIDI controller > Channels 3 and 4
Step 3: Set up Mixlr
1. Open Mixlr Studio and in the channel area, select the + icon
2. Select the source selector at the top of the input channel. From the input list, select your MIDI controller > Channels 1 and 2.
3. Check that you can see an audio signal coming in.
Set your levels and go live
Warning: If you see the CLIP indicator, your audio may sound distorted to listeners. Lower your fader until it disappears.
Once your levels are set, you're ready to go live on Mixlr.
