Broadcast using Traktor S2
Set up your Traktor S2 controller to stream your mix live on Mixlr — steps for Mac and Windows.
The steps for setting up the Traktor S2 differ between Mac and Windows because of how the S2 routes audio on each operating system. On Windows, the S2 exposes a loopback input you can select directly in Mixlr. On Mac, the S2 has no available inputs, so you'll need to create a Mac Aggregate Device using a virtual audio cable (such as Mixlr AudioLink or BlackHole) to route the audio.
Using a different Traktor controller? See Broadcast using Traktor S4.
On Windows
1. Open Traktor and select the Preferences icon (circular icon, top right of the app).
2. Select the Audio Setup tab and set your audio device to Traktor Kontrol S2.
3. Select the Output Routing tab. For Output Monitor, set L to 3: Traktor Kontrol S2 Monitor L and R to 4: Traktor Kontrol S2 Monitor R. For Output Master, set L to 1: Traktor Kontrol S2 Master L and R to 2: Traktor Kontrol S2 Master R.
4. Open Mixlr Studio and add an Audio device channel. Select Select Source and choose Speakers (Traktor Kontrol S2) (loopback) > Channels 1 and 2 from the list.
5. Check that you can see an audio signal coming in, then go live.
On Mac
Because the S2 has no available inputs on Mac, you need to combine it with a virtual audio cable (such as Mixlr AudioLink or BlackHole) into a Mac Aggregate Device. This creates a virtual audio path between Traktor and Mixlr.
Step 1: Create an Aggregate Device
1. Use Finder to search for Audio MIDI Setup and open it.
2. Click the + icon in the bottom left and select Create Aggregate Device.
3. Tick Traktor Kontrol S2 and your virtual audio cable to include them in your new aggregate device.
4. Optionally rename the device to something easy to recognise, such as 'Mixlr / Traktor S2'.
Step 2: Configure Traktor
1. Open Traktor and select the Preferences icon (circular icon, top right).
2. Select the Audio Setup tab and set your audio device to the aggregate device you just created.
3. Select the Output Routing tab. For Output Monitor, set L to Headphone Left and R to Headphone Right. For Output Master, set L to Main Left and R to Main Right. For Output Record, set L and R to your new aggregate device.
4. Select the Mix Recorder tab. Ensure that the source is set to Internal.
5. You should now see audio signals coming through the recorder in the global view.
Step 3: Set up Mixlr
1. Open Mixlr Studio and in the channel area, select the + icon
2. Select the source selector at the top of the input channel. From the input list, select your aggregate device (Mixlr / Traktor S2, or whatever you named it) > Channels 1 and 2 from the list.
3. Check that you can see an audio signal coming in, then go live.
